Caro Ramsay was born in Govan, on Glasgow's south side.
A graduate of the British School of Osteopathy, she ran a large osteopath centre in West Scotland until 2026, when she decided she needed more time to plan ways to kill people (fictionally, of course).
Caro has written 20 crime novels, many of which has been translated into multiple languages.
In 2020, The Red, Red Snow was longlisted for the McIlvanney Prize, and in 2018, The Suffering of Strangers was longlisted for the same award.
In 2010, Singing to the Dead was longlisted for the Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award and in 2008, her debut novel Absolution was shortlisted for the Crime Writers' Association New Blood Dagger.
Critic Cathi Unsworth in The Guardian opined that Ramsay's series "excels in sense of place, realism, plotting and caustic humour", describing it as "bleak, black and brilliant".
